Featuring artwork created by Sr. Mariella Erdmann osf, these beautiful banners are based on “The Canticle of the Creatures” by St Francis of Assisi.
It is widely accepted as the first known piece of poetry written in what would become the Italian language.
The Canticle of the creatures begins with, “Praised be You, my Lord with all your Creatures…” and describes how God’s artistry is in everything, everywhere and we as humanity are part of His creativity.

Sister Mariella Erdmann osf is a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin USA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and an MFA degree. Sister Mariella has been an educator for many years, teaching at High school and College levels. Upon leaving College level teaching she received the honour of Professor Emeritus for her years of service.
The Catholic Religious Congregation of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity was founded in 1869. Our calling is a response to a loving God. We are deeply rooted in Franciscan tradition, and in love for the Church. Mindful of our title, we are selflessly dedicated to the service of others. Our apostolates continue to grow and adapt to the needs within the Church and as women enter to serve with their unique gifts and abilities.
The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity join those who have gone before us in echoing the words of St. Francis as he said, “I have done what is mine (to do); may Christ teach you what is yours (to do)!”
